KEY POINTS:
A Westport man died while whitebaiting on Martin's Island, beside the Buller River, early today.
The man, believed to be in his sixties, is thought to have suffered a heart attack.
St John's Westport team manager Ian Rodger said the man was already dead when emergency services arrived.
The man had been whitebaiting with three friends since dawn. They told emergency services he collapsed at 6.30am.
Police said the man would not be named until next of kin had been advised.
