A man has died while diving in the Bay of Plenty this afternoon.
The 41-year-old Tauranga man got into difficulties while diving with friends.
The Tauranga-based Trustpower TECT rescue helicopter was called out to a boat 1km off the south coast of Motiti Island where resuscitation was underway.
An intensive care St John paramedic was lowered onto the boat but the man had died.
It is not yet known what caused the man to become unwell or get into difficulty.
