A 63-year-old man likely died of a heart attack while fishing with a group of people south southwest of Dunedin today, police say.
The man, from Balclutha, collapsed about 1pm while on a boat with six others a few kilometres out to sea from the Taieri Mouth, Senior Constable Jim Jordan told NZPA.
Attempts to revive him were not successful and he died of a suspected heart attack, he said.
He hit his head when he collapsed and it was initially thought his death may have been the result of an accident.
