A man is dead after his car left the road and crashed in the Bay of Plenty early this morning.
The man, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was travelling on State Highway 35, about 10km east of Opotiki, between Omarumutu and Opape.
Inspector Gavin MacDonald, of the police central communications centre, said it did not appear there was anyone else involved in the crash, which happened about 3am.
The man's name cannot be released until his family have been notified.
