A man has died following a truck crash in Canterbury this evening.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to Maronan Road, near the Hinds River Bridge, shortly after 4.30pm after reports of a truck going over the bank and into the riverbed.
Police said authorities - including an urban search and rescue crew from Timaru - worked for about an hour to retrieve the driver from the truck.
However, the man - believed to be in his 60s - was pronounced dead at the scene.
Motorists are being asked to stay away from the area as authorities carry out a scene examination as well as work to remove the heavy truck from the riverbed.
