Man dies in timber yard accident

A young man died in a forklift accident at a timber processing yard yesterday.

Ryan Stevenson, 24, of Gisborne, was killed at JJ Timber Processing yard shortly before midday.

The Labour Department's Occupational Safety and Health unit has begun an investigation into the accident.

Ryan's father Ray is a respected full-time ambulance officer. A St John spokesman said all regional staff had been affected by the accident.

It was the second tragedy to strike the family. About six years ago Mr Stevenson's brother Karl was killed in a motor accident.
