Man dies in Te Puke crash

A man in his 20s died last night when the car he was driving ploughed into a tree in Te Puke.

St John Ambulance took a male passenger to Tauranga Hospital in a critical condition.

Police said speed was a factor in the crash, which occurred off State Highway 2 about 9.45pm.

The serious crash unit is investigating.
