A man who was in a car which was sliced in two when it collided with a rubbish truck earlier this month has died of his injuries.
Todd Charles Wiltshire, 25, of Albany, died in Auckland Hospital's intensive care unit on Thursday night after the crash with a rubbish truck on Albany Hill on January 7.
The condition of another man who was in the vehicle, 28-year-old Grant Forsey, has improved and he is now in a stable condition, a hospital spokesperson said.
Senior Constable Karl Bevin, of the Waitemata serious crash unit, said the driver of a Nissan Skyline lost control after rounding a left-hand bend and slid across the lanes into oncoming south-bound traffic.
It appeared the truck driver had veered towards the left-hand lane to try to avoid the collision but the Nissan Skyline slid sideways and collided with it.
Constable Colin Nuttall, of the serious crash unit, said both men were thrown from the vehicle, one landing about 25 metres from the point of impact.
