A man died in a sleepout fire in Talbot St, Wanganui East, early yesterday despite a neighbour making three attempts to rescue him.
The neighbour was thwarted by thick smoke.
Firefighters tried CPR and a defibrillator to revive the victim, without success. He was aged in his 30s.
