KEY POINTS:
An East Coast man died yesterday when a car and a four-wheel-drive collided head-on on State Highway 2 near Ohiwa Beach Rd, west of Opotiki.
The man, 57, who was a front-seat passenger in the car, died instantly. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.
A Te Kaha woman, 27, who was driving, suffered leg, pelvic and internal injuries and was flown to Tauranga Hospital in the Trustpower Tect rescue helicopter.
