KEY POINTS:
A 35-year-old man was killed when a shingle truck collided with a car at Fernside, near the North Canterbury town of Rangiora this morning.
Sergeant Rene Pabst said the victim, a rear seat passenger in a Nissan vehicle, died at the scene of the crash just after 8am.
The Nissan driver and a front-seat passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was uninjured.
Mr Pabst said it appeared the Nissan had driven through a stop sign at the intersection of Johns Rd and Plaskett Rd, about 2km west of Rangiora.
Police were investigating.
The dead man's name would be released when all next of kin were informed.
