KEY POINTS:
A 28-year-old Hawera man is dead after an accident at a charity trail bike ride yesterday.
Jonathan Barry Meads was involved in the accident at 11.30am on a private farm near Hawera.
Constable Bernard Deadman said that it appeared Mr Meads had failed to take a moderate turn, fell a short distance down a bank and hit a fence.
Nearly 300 riders took part in the annual charity event organised by the Normanby Lions Club.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
