A glider crash in the Bombay Hills has killed the aircraft's sole occupant, an as-yet-unidentified man in late 50s or early 60s.
Police said the crash took place around 4pm today.
Officers arriving on the scene shortly after the crash found the man alive but unconscious. He died shortly after.
The glider crashed into a paddock near Nikau Road, south of Auckland, Police northern communications Inspector Lou Alofa said.
Inquiries were continuing as to the man's identity, he said.
