A 21-year-old Palmerston North man has died from injuries he received when his car slammed into a bridge at the weekend.
The crash happened shortly before 5am on Saturday on the bridge over Mangaone Stream, in northern Manawatu.
Geoffrey Payne was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He died yesterday afternoon, police said.
Two passengers in the car, Palmerston North men aged 19 and 20, suffered minor injuries.
Police investigating the crash are keen to track down two men who helped out at the scene.
They waded into the stream to help Mr Payne and his injured friends but left before police were able to talk to them, said Sergeant Tony Romley.
He believes they may have just finished a shift at the nearby Longburn freezing works.
