KEY POINTS:
A man who was resuscitated by police early today after he suffered a heart attack has died in Waikato Hospital.
Senior Sergeant Pete van de Wetering of Hamilton police said the 48-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest after police stopped the car he was a passenger in for a routine check at 4am today.
"He was talking to one of the officers when he collapsed."
Up to four police officers performed CPR for about 10 minutes until paramedics arrived.
Dean Kelleher, an advanced paramedic from Hamilton St John Ambulance response unit, praised the officers for their efforts.
Mr van de Wetering said police were advised at midday that the man had died. His name was not available.
