KEY POINTS:
A man died in Christchurch this morning after being pulled from surf at Christchurch's New Brighton beach.
A police southern communications centre spokesman said police and ambulance staff were called to the beach at about 9.30am.
The man, aged about 60, had been pulled from the water near the pier but died soon afterwards.
It was unclear whether the death was a drowning or attributed to a medical condition.
A post-mortem examination was to be carried out.
