A 58-year-old man has died at a Coromandel Peninsula beach this afternoon.
The man died in the surf at Tairua, 37km southeast of Whitianga on the east side of the peninsula, about 2.40pm.
He was pulled to the beach and members of the public performed CPR on the man for several minutes, before paramedics took over.
Police said the man's family was with him when he died and that his death is believed to be linked to a medical condition.
The death has been reported to the coroner.
