KEY POINTS:
A man is dead after a car hit a house being transported on a trailer and bounced off into another vehicle early today.
Police said two houses were being transported separately on two trailers when they were hit by the car on Great South Rd, Manurewa, about 1.15am.
The driver of the car died at the scene. No one else was hurt.
Constable Steve Carey from the Counties Manukau serious crash unit said the dead man's car was badly damaged and had there been a passenger in the front seat, it would have been a double fatality.
He said it was too soon to say if alcohol or drugs were involved.
The dead man's car did not appear to be speeding excessively, he said.
The man's name had yet to be released.
