A competitor has died in hospital following a crash at a street sidecar motorcycle racing event yesterday.
The 58-year-old Auckland man suffered pelvic and chest injuries when the machine he was in Paeroa's Battle of the Streets rolled at high speed and slid into an obstacle.
He was airlifted to Waikato Hospital where he died in theatre overnight.
His daughter, who was competing as the sidecar's swinger, was also injured.
