KEY POINTS:
A 22-year-old man was killed when the car he was driving crashed into a power pole south of Auckland early this morning.
The man's car knocked over the power pole on Glenbrook Road, Kingseat, a country area near the Glenbrook Steel Mill, about 60km southwest of downtown Auckland.
Ambulance team manager Murray Bannister said the man was dead at the scene.
He said it appeared the man was the only occupant of the car. No other vehicles were involved.
Inspector Gary Hill of the police northern communications centre said Glenbrook Rd remained closed this morning as the power pole was still down.
