Man dies after being struck by train

A man is dead after he was struck by a train in Mt Maunganui early this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 12.40pm, Inspector Tony Edwards of police northern communications centre said.

It appeared the man had been on foot and no vehicles other than the train were involved.

No one else was injured, Mr Edwards said.

Police were at the scene investigating.
