An investigation is underway after a man collapsed while in police handcuffs and later died.
Police were carrying out a search warrant at a property in te Puke this morning.
A police spokeswoman said a firearm was seen at the property so the man at the property was placed in handcuffs for the safety of police officers carrying out the search.
"Although the man appeared verbally agitated, there was no physical struggle," the spokeswoman said.
Shortly after being placed in the handcuffs, the man aged in his 50s collapsed of an apparent medical event.
