KEY POINTS:
A worker died last night after being injured at a plant owned by dairy cooperative Fonterra at Whareroa, near Hawera, in Taranaki.
Radio New Zealand reported Fonterra said the man suffered serious injuries while working in a packing plant just before 7pm and he died while being transferred to hospital.
The area where the man was working was immediately shut down and will remain isolated until police and Department of Labour inspections are completed.
