Man dead in workplace accident in Manawatu

A man has died while working at a rural property near Shannon tonight.

It is understood that he was caught in a potato harvesting machine while working on a property in Barber Rd, Moutoa, just north of Shannon.

Emergency services were called to the scene about 5.30pm.

Police said the incident had been referred to WorkSafe, but no further information was available.

"Police's thoughts are with the man's family at this time," said a statement.
