The elderly man who died after a bus revered into him at a South Island tourist hotspot today was an American tourist.
Police this evening identified the man as 73-year-old Richard Philip Hyde, from Massachusetts, United States.
He was injured at the carpark of Mt Nicholas Station, near Queenstown.
Mr Hyde was treated at the scene and then airlifted by helicopter to the Lakes District Hospital in Queenstown, where he later died.
Tour company Southern Discoveries said the incident happened at 1.35pm.
