A man has died tonight after reportedly falling off the back of a truck.
A police spokeswoman said a man was found dead on Papaiti Rd, in Whanganui, about 9.15pm last night.
"A man was found deceased on the road when police arrived. The circumstances of his death are yet to be established, however, it is believed he may have fallen from the back of a truck."
The driver of the truck is speaking with police, the spokeswoman said.
The road is closed while emergency services are at the scene, including the Serious Crash Unit.
Central Fire Communications' team manager Richard Schulze said they were also told a man had fallen off the back of a truck.
A member of the public was given CPR instructions over the phone, but the man was dead when ambulance officers arrived, Schulze said.
He believed the dead man was aged about 30.
