Man dead after possible hit and run

A man, believed to be in his mid 20s, is dead after a possible hit and run incident in Lower Hutt this morning.

Senior Sergeant Richard Leach of Lower Hutt police told NZPA the man was found unconscious lying on the road by a motorist on Cambridge Terrace in the suburb of Waiwhetu just after 6am.

He had sustained head, abdomen and pelvic injuries and died on arrival at Hutt Hospital, Mr Leach said.

Police have not yet been able to confirm the man's identity.
