An elderly man has died after a car crashed into a house on East Coast Road in Northcross this afternoon, say police.
Police say that at 1.05pm this afternoon, a Toyota Camry was travelling south when the vehicle suddenly left the road and went over a steep incline before crashing through a house and into a bedroom.
An elderly male driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
An 88-year-old man was in the bedroom at the time. The man's wife, who was in another part of the house, rushed to the bedroom and found the body of her husband lying on the floor, say police.
The entire vehicle ended up inside the bedroom, say police. An off-duty police officer who was passing by the scene at the time went to assist the deceased victim. He applied CPR but was unable to revive him.
The driver is being treated at hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, say police.
The Serious Crash Unit is investigating and a post-mortem examination will be held tomorrow to determine the cause of death of the deceased.
The family of the deceased is in "deep shock" and Victim Support services have been assisting at the scene.
