A man called out for help as he was crushed to death under his car in Timaru last night.
Kenneth Arthur Wood, 65, had been trying to remove the oil filter from his car before the accident at his Grants Rd home about 10.30pm.
Sergeant Ian Howard of Timaru police said the Nissan car was on a slight slope and had been propped up with only a scissor jack.
The car toppled off the jack and fell on the man, who called out for help.
However, his flatmate was unable to lift the car off him.
