A man is in a critical condition in Christchurch Hospital after he was crushed under nine slabs of granite.
Police said emergency services were called to a commercial premise on Wairakei Road in Christchurch, where the 60-year-old man had become trapped under nine slabs of granite.
The slabs weigh 400kg each and were being unloaded by the injured man and a second person when they slipped.
Department of Labour inspectors are investigating.
