A man's chest and pelvis were crushed when a 700kg hay bale fell on him north of Auckland today.
The Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to the scene at Kaipara Flats, near Warkworth, about 9.50am.
The man, in his 50s, had been loading a truck with the hay bales when two fell, the Auckland Rescue Helicopter Trust said in a statement.
One landed on him, crushing his chest and pelvis.
Bystanders removed the bale and the man was stabilised before being airlifted to Auckland Hospital in a serious condition.
