Man critical after stabbing

A man is in Auckland Hospital with critical injuries after what appears to have been a stabbing northwest of Auckland this morning.

Police were called shortly after 4am to an address on Shelly Beach Rd in the tiny settlement of Shelly Beach, on the Kaipara Harbour northwest of Auckland.

"It appears that an argument broke out and somebody has been stabbed," Inspector Matt Rogers said.

He was treated locally but subsequently airlifted by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Auckland Hospital with critical injuries.

Mr Rogers said that a person was being spoken to about the incident."
