A young man is fighting for his life in Waikato Hospital after being flung from his car overnight - because he wasn't wearing a seatbelt.
Hamilton police said both speed and alcohol appeared to be contributing factors.
The man's car left the road on State Highway 39 near Otorohanga about 9pm.
It rolled several times scattering debris for 50 metres.
The victim, alone in the car, was listed in critical condition in hospital and undergoing surgery.
