A man is in a critical condition after his car smashed into a power pole on the Albany Highway this morning.
A crane had to lift the pole from on top of the Holden ute before emergency services could cut the man from the vehicle at about 3am.
The man was taken to Auckland City Hospital, a police spokeswoman said.
