KEY POINTS:
A male passenger in a car which was struck by a train at a level crossing last night remained in a critical condition today.
Two teenagers were in the car hit by the train at Grovetown, 5km north of Blenheim.
Blenheim police said there were no barrier arms, only warning lights on the crossing.
The 18-year-old passenger was flown to Wellington Hospital with severe head injuries.
Police said he was in an induced coma in a critical but stable condition.
The 17-year-old driver was taken to Blenheim's Wairau Hospital for treatment for moderate injuries and was in a stable condition.
Investigations into the cause of the accident were continuing today.
