An Owaka man was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital after a quad bike rolled in the Catlins yesterday.
Constable Darren Huddleston of Balclutha said the 44-year-old man was riding on hilly farmland when the bike rolled about 3.30pm. The man crawled 150m to get phone coverage before texting a relative for help.
Emergency services were called to the farm at Jacks Bay, about 10km southeast of Owaka, shortly after 4pm.
The man was taken to Dunedin Hospital by the Otago Regional Rescue Helicopter with a suspected broken hip.
