A man has been seriously injured after his car crashed into a tree in Wairarapa overnight.
The 46-year-old was the only occupant of the car which smashed into a tree on the Kahutara Rd in south Wairarapa district around 3am, police central communications Inspector Chris Tate said.
The man was found by a passing driver who called emergency services, he said.
The man was flown to Wellington Hospital's Emergency Department in a critical condition with life threatening injuries, the Life Flight Trust said. It sent a Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance intensive care paramedic on-board.
The serious crash unit was investigating, Mr Tate said.
