KEY POINTS:
A New Zealand man imprisoned in India for sexually abusing orphans in India is back living in Upper Hutt.
Eoghan Colm McBride, 68, was convicted in 2002 of sex offences dating back to the late 1980s and early 1990s in the Arabian Sea resort of Goa.
He was extradited from New Zealand to face the charges then sentenced to seven years in prison but international media reports last week said he had skipped bail while on parole and was being hunted by police again.
But the Dominion Post newspaper today reported McBride was deported back to New Zealand in November 2005 and was not being sought by police.
The newspaper said police were not monitoring McBride as he had been jailed overseas.
In July 2002 McBride was found guilty of sodomising children from a Goan orphanage and also of criminal conspiracy.
