An Auckland father has been ordered to stand trial charged with murdering his 11-week-old daughter.
Azees Mahomed, 29, was committed to trial today for the murder of his daughter Tahani Mahomed following a depositions hearing in Manukau District Court, his lawyer Aarif Rasheed said.
The charge follows the death of his daughter Tahani Mahomed, who died in Auckland's Starship Hospital three days after she was admitted to Middlemore Hospital in December last year.
Tahani was admitted to Middlemore Hospital in Otahuhu on December 28 last year with head injuries.
She was subsequently transferred to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland, where she died on New Year's Day.
Mahomed will also face charges of failing to provide the necessaries of life and one of neglect.
The boy's mother Tabbasum Mahomed, 24, will also face charges of failing to provide the necessaries of life and neglect. She does not face a murder charge.
The pair will appear at the High Court in Auckland on February 4 for a callover, at which a date for their trial may be set.
