KEY POINTS:
A Tauranga man who was fighting for his life after putting his hand through a glass door is now in a comfortable position in Waikato Hospital.
Hospital spokeswoman Mary Anne Gill said he was in a "comfortable condition" in a ward, not intensive care.
The man punched a glass door early yesterday, severing a major artery, after an altercation with his retired elderly neighbours, The Bay of Plenty Times reported.
St John Ambulance staff said the man lost a massive amount of blood and had to be revived by ambulance staff.
He was taken to Tauranga Hospital and then to Waikato Hospital.
The retired couple, George and Joan Hurley said they were woken by loud music about 2am yesterday.
Mr Hurley went and asked his neighbours, aged between 16 and 22 years, to quieten down.
One of the group became angry and followed Mr Hurley to his door.
Mr Hurley described the man as "aggro" and "raving".
He punched the Hurley's door and after a few minutes fell to the ground unconscious in a pool of blood.
Tauranga police could not comment on whether the man in hospital would face charges.
