A 22-year-old accused of assaulting a 2-year-old and breaching a protection order has had all charges against him dismissed.
Jamie Gill appeared before Judge Bill Hastings in Masterton District Court yesterday to defend the charges.
Defence lawyer Peter Stevens said Gill had received a text message from the complainant on September 12, saying: "Sorry for lying about everything, I want to make things right and tell the truth".
Mr Stevens said the complainant also went to the Masterton Police Station on September 12 and made a statement recanting her original statement.
Police asked for an adjournment because they had been unable to locate the complainant. Judge Hastings said in light of the retraction he would dismiss the charges against Gill.
