Man charged with using car as weapon

A 48-year-old man is to appear in Whangarei District Court on a variety of charges, among them using his car as a weapon.

Sergeant Howard Clement of Whangarei police said the man was heading south in his vehicle on State Highway One around 5.50pm yesterday when his car collided with one of two police cars doing a routine enforcement stop.

Mr Clement said the man carried on without stopping, but was pulled over by police and arrested.

He was charged with reckless driving, assault with a weapon, and failing to stop and ascertain injury.
