KEY POINTS:
A 29-year-old Orewa man was remanded in custody after appearing in North Shore District Court today charged with sexually violating and robbing a Japanese woman in the town earlier this month.
The man, who did not enter a plea, was remanded to reappear on April 2.
Rodney police arrested the man last night.
Police said the woman, who could speak only a little English, was attacked while walking along a footpath in Maygrove Park, Orewa, about 9pm on March 20.
Police spokesman Kevin Loughlin said Japanese interpreters "provided valuable assistance" to investigators.
The man faced charges of unlawful sexual connection and aggravated robbery.
