A 17-year-old man has been charged with the rape of a partially blind woman in Upper Hutt two weeks ago.
Detective Sergeant Ron Scott of Upper Hutt CIB said the man, who was arrested on Saturday, would appear in Upper Hutt District Court later today.
Mr Scott thanked the public for providing information in the inquiry. The young woman was attacked after she got off an early evening commuter train at Trentham on July 10 and started walking home.
As she passed the former Brentwood School, she was grabbed and sexually attacked. The attacker ran off. The woman was able to reach her home, from where she contacted police.
Police said at the time that they were disgusted by the attack. The young woman did not carry a cane.
