Man charged with murder of baby

A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged today with the murder of a seven-month-old baby girl who died in Nelson on March 25.

Detective Sergeant Mark Kaveney, of the Nelson CIB, said the man had been remanded in custody.

The investigation followed the death of a baby in a bath in Stoke on Saturday, March 25, first reported as a drowning.

The baby's father and mother were at home at the time.

Mr Kaveney said a court hearing date in Nelson had yet to be confirmed.
