Police have charged a man with murder after a double stabbing in Levin yesterday.
A Foxton Beach man, 18, died in Palmerston North Hospital last night from his injuries. His girlfriend, 17, is recovering in hospital after surgery for stab wounds to her chest.
Senior Sergeant Kris Burbery this morning said an 18-year-old has been charged with murder and attempted murder. He is due to appear in Palmerston North District Court today.
Neighbour John Johnston said he first thought it was kids playing when the assault began.
"You know how kids scream. It was like that," he said.
Another neighbour, Ray Dempsey, said his son told him boy racers were tearing up the street, and when he looked he saw a man lying on the road.
"He had his insides coming out," he said.
"The girl was sitting on the step with a wound to her arm."
Mr Burbery said the police are seeking witnesses, but no further information was available.
A post-mortem on the man's body will be carried out today.
