The body of a woman killed in west Auckland last night remained this morning in the house where she was found, as a man was due in court charged with her murder.
The 46-year-old woman had been identified but her name would not be released until relatives had been told, police said.
A 30-year-old man was to appear in Waitakere District Court today charged with her murder.
Police released few details, including how the woman died or whether they had found a weapon at the house, in the west Auckland suburb of Henderson.
The house has been cordoned off since police were called late last night and found the woman's body.
The body remained where it was found overnight as a police guard was set up.
A large forensic police team was at the house at first light today and police said they hoped the body would be removed for a post-mortem examination today - although it could be delayed until tomorrow.
Police said they had spoken to several people who were at the house.
