A 28-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the abduction and indecent assault of an 11-year-old Christchurch girl last week.
Police said Jarod Paul Simmonds appeared in Blenheim District Court on Saturday.
The vineyard worker was remanded in custody until February 15, when he will appear in Christchurch District Court.
The girl was dragged into the grounds of the Kura Kaupapa Maori O Te Whanau school in Lyttelton St, Spreydon, about 6pm on February 6.
A man put his hand over her mouth, told her he wanted her to take part in a survey, and gave her some chewing gum.
Then he tripped her up and indecently assaulted the youngster.
A woman at the school saw what was happening and yelled out, scaring the attacker off.
