A Whakatane man has been charged in connection with the deaths of two women in a motor vehicle accident north of Gisborne.
Their vehicle burst into flames in a head-on collision in April on State Highway 2 near Te Karaka.
The 46-year-old man is charged with aggravated careless driving causing the death of Juanita (Nita) Raikes, 80, and her granddaughter Hayley Goodall, 20.
He has interim name suppression and will appear in Gisborne District Court on September 3.
