A man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly breaching a restraining order and stabbing his estranged partner at a Hamilton party.
Police said the woman, 46, had been stabbed by a silver blade up to 15cm in length at a Frankton house on Saturday night, and a 46-year-old man would appear in the Hamilton District Court today.
The man has also been charged with threatening to kill, breaching a protection order, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of a weapon.
Detective Sergeant Andy Bu Bear said police were looking for the knife and some clothing possibly hidden somewhere along Frankton's Primrose St, and asked for information from the public.
"The weapon used to stab the woman was described as a knife with a small silver blade 10-15cm in length; we don't know what the handle was made of," Mr Bu Bear said.
Mr Bu Bear said yesterday that police had visited the house earlier in the evening looking for the woman's estranged partner, and the stabbing could have been prevented if drunk party-goers had co-operated with officers at the time.
A short time later police had been called back to the house and found the woman stabbed, he said.
